Shots On Goal - Oilers 32 Red Wings 39

Game Notes:
- A tale of of three or four games all wrapped in one. Oilers came out stormin', riding the heat from the last game against Chicago. Then there was the 2nd period where they battled to a stalemate. The third period belonged to Detroit and almost won the game because of it. Late game heroics by Jordan Eberle sent it into overtime. The overtime and shootout played out like a heavyweight fight, going to toe to toe, blow for blow. The Oilers finally emerged as the winner after six rounds of shootout. This win tonight was more important, in my eyes, than the win against the Black Hawks. The Red Wings are battle tested and have a great deal of veteran guile. Even when they were down 3-1, they just kept plugging away, never getting discouraged by their plight. It's a trait the Oilers I hope so discover and adopt. The score is never so bleak that you stop trying to make plays and that is the lesson learned tonight. The Oilers seemed to have found a new level of understanding of what it takes to win and understand they can hang with the best and baddest teams in the league. The biggest thing is them keeping the battle level high. Just gotta keep battling. It would be nice to have some bigger dogs in the battle, but these Oilers need to bring, to a man, whatever they can. Big character win for the Oilers tonight, when it looked a sure 2 points, turned quickly into 0, then back 2 again. They never let the momentum change carry the game away.

Player of the Game:
- Jordan Eberle. Scored twice including the one that sent things to overtime with 39 seconds to play. Eberle's nose for the net is sublime. Even though he isn't the biggest player, always seems to get the last whack in around the net and that whack usually sends the puck into the net. He never puts himself into a lot of dangerous situations when doing this either, its quite remarkable to see. Eberle just keeps clipping along this year, leading the team in goals and points, just keeps racking up the points. Solid sophomore year from him this year.

Goat of the Game:
- Andy Sutton. Sutton really didn't have that bad of a game, but really got burned by Todd Bertuzzi on Detroit go ahead goal. I would tell him to keep trying that play but to make sure the puck doesn't get by you. Just an unfortunate play for Sutton, and an amazing goal for Bertuzzi. You can't put the muzzle on Sutton, you need him to out and bark as loud as he can.

Next Game - Monday February 6, 2012 vs. Maple Leafs @ Toronto on Sportsnet West 5 PM MT.
