Shots On Goal - Oilers 36 Ducks 31

Game Notes:
- Game meant a lot more to the Ducks than it did the Oilers. Ducks didn't look great tonight as the Oilers took the play to them for the majority of the game. The Oilers played hard, but it almost seemed like a false hard because everytime the puck got near the net the execution wasn't there. Just not enough focus to make a play at the net. Its the usual problems that plagued the Oilers. Not enough push at the net, not enough finish around the net, brain cramps in own zone, goalies couldn't make a big save at the right time, all equals another loss. Its tough to critique games like this because we all know the Oilers have little to play for and playing so many meaningless games has to weigh on them heavily. Its just a trickle down effect that starts from the rafters and works its way down to the ice. I just feel bad for Oilers fans that have to pay full price for games like this.

Player of the Game:
- Shawn Horcoff. It was a night he had great jump and played with a purpose. Was responsible in his own zone and was eager to make a play with the puck. Games like tonight for Horcoff have been too far and too few in between for him. The Oilers needed a lot more fom him this year and he has failed to deliver on many a night. Good to see Horcoff come out and play with some pride. Had a goal and an assist tonight.

Goat of the Game:
- Ryan Whitney. It's his first GOTG of the year, but its likely been a long time coming. Whitney hasn't played well for awhile and it all came to a head tonight. Whitney was coughing up pucks left and right that resulted in 2 Anaheim goals and he was caught chasing the third goal. Whitney's mobility has been surely hurting him this year and its not getting any better. The Oilers lack of mobility on the backend isn't all on Whitney but some decisions will have to be made too add some mobility there.

Next Game - Tuesday March 6, 2012 vs. Sharks @ San Jose on Sportsnet Edmonton 8:30 PM MT.
