Shots On Goal - Oilers 38 Coyotes 42

Game Notes:
- Oilers played hard and played well tonight, but they got Phoenix Coyote'd tonight. Phoenix just hung around the game long enough, like they always do, to take two points and sweep the season series 4-zip. The Coyotes just do more with less talent and more them, its a mindset. They just keep playing the same way no matter the score. They just keep plugging away, playing like they should. It's a page that the Oilers will need to take if they want to rise to the next level. It would feel like a pretty bitter loss if the game meant anything in the standings, but as it stands right now, its a shootout loss, the Oilers played well, time to move to the next game. They just couldn't get the third goal to put this game on ice. Lots to feel positive about tonight, but to come out of this game without a win feels a bit empty. Very few passengers tonight. Both goaltenders were outstanding tonight.

Player of the Game:
- Ales Hemsky. First time all year he has been in this category. Hemsky has played hard over the last few games but tonight was the first time in a long, long time there was offensive creation in his game. Scored the important 2-0 goal, and just kept making deft play after deft play. Having Hartikainen as a linemate really gave Hemsky some room to wheel as Hartikainen really clogged up the net area while Hemsky was able weave in and out of traffic.

Goat of the Game:
- Jeff Petry. Near perfect game from Petry. But the last 5 minutes of the third and overtime were filled with questionable decisions from Petry. Petry tried to throw a hit on Raffi Torres but missed, essentially sending in Torres and Brule in a on 2 on 1 they scored on. I like the aggressive mindset on Petry but the smarter play would have been to stay back, especially with a lead that late in a game. Petry ended up taking a penalty in overtime as well because the puck got caught up in his skates that eventually led to a hooking penalty. Petry continues to round into a solid defenseman for the Oilers but there is a time to be aggressive and a time to play it safe. Petry is still learning this.

Next Game - Tuesday March 20, 2012 vs. Predators @ Nashville on Sportsnet Edmonton 6 PM MT.
