Shots On Goal - Oilers 26 Sharks 30

Game Notes:
- Oilers pull through in a shootout win, 3-2. I had a good feeling the Oilers would put forth a good effort tonight and they responded. Dubnyk had a very up and down night. Let in a couple of ugly goals but played flawlessly the rest of the way. This game has been a lot like his season. Very up and down. The defense as a whole played fairly well tonight. Whitney was solid after having a tough game in Anaheim last night. Potter was more steady than usual. Smid and Petry were rock solid again. The forwards played, even though the lines seem a smidge disjointed. Would like to see the kid line reunited again soon. I think the time is right to reignite that magic. The Sharks played well and hard but just seem to lack a sense of "seizing the moment", in their game something that has plagued them for the last many seasons. Its a hard fought, feel good win for the Oilers and most of all, it was well deserved, good to see them get back in the win column.

Player of the Game:
- Ladislav Smid. Its not often Smid will find himself in this spot, so I figured its a good time to give him the kudos tonight for a solid game and a solid year. Smid chipped in with an assist and was +1 tonight. Smid's game has flourished leaps and bounds this year to the point where he has become reliable when on the ice. Its too bad there isn't an offensive bone in his body but he is what he is and he has been above average this year on a team where many players have been below average.

Goat of the Game:
- Theo Peckham. Looked rusty as all jebus tonight. Just could not make a play with the puck tonight, took a couple of big hits that rattled him. Overall, just looked out of sorts. Was a team worst -2 tonight. All that being said I hope he gets some games in to end the year, but the writing is on the wall with him with Sutton, Schultz, Whitney and Smid all signed for next year and Peckham looking for a contract. Its too bad, I had high hopes for him.

Next Game - Thursday March 8, 2012 vs. Canadiens @ Rexall Place on Sportsnet West 7:30 PM MT.
