Shots On Goal - Oilers 33 Canucks 30

Game Notes:
- About as bitter a loss you can get in game #3 of the year. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins nets a hat trick and half the team makes dumb plays all over the ice is essentially the micrcosm of this game. Tke kids, RNH and Hall specifically were really trying hard and creating tonight. Smyth and Horcoff had tough games tonight. Just bad reads and missed assignments all over the ice for these two. Horcoff had a good night on the dot but missed 2 assignments that led to goals. Devan Dubnyk had a lukewarm night. The kind of night that he had a lot last year, good enough to not get the finger pointed at him, but not enough to help his team win. He had issues with rebound control tonight. The Oilers defense was exposed pretty badly tonight. Lots of giveaways tonight and lots of errand passes. Corey Potter played well and made some plays in the backend. The Oilers really need to find a way to get both Potter and Petry playing on the backend, meaning one of Sutton, Smid or Peckham should be sitting. The Oilers really need to learn how to play with some composure. They kept rushing the play when there was more time to make plays. The Canucks did a good job of clogging up shooting lanes and forcing the Oilers to the outside. When an 18 year old player, is the best player at penetrating the defense, that is a big problem for the team, one it will have to deal with in short order.

Player of the Game:
- Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Without any doubt, the best player in the game. This kid just knows how to play the game and understands the concepts of where to be and what he is going to do. The master of the simple play. He really understands the angles/leverage and how he works them to his advantage. Welcome to the club, Ryan. We'll have to turn over the team some more to get some neanderthals to help out some of these kids get the space they'll need.

Goat of the Game:
- Theo Peckham. I could have picked from a handful of guys, but Peckham's turnover in the 3rd period led to the eventual winner. Peckham played tough and had a nice fight with Dale Weise, but treated the puck like a grenade tonight. Ultimately, it ended up in the Oilers' demise. Horcoff and Smyth could have ended up here just as easily.

Next Game - Monday October 17 2011 vs. Nashville @ Rexall Place on Sportsnet West 7:30 PM MT.
