Game Notes:
In the past, this would have been a game the Oilers would have lost. Being thoroughly frusterated through 40 minutes, one would have figured this is ultimaltely how the game would have ended. But all it took was one cross ice seem pass from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to Taylor Hall and then there was hope. There wouldn't have two players at either end of that puck that I would have wanted more than those two. Fantastic pass, fantastic finish. Horcoff and Smyth teamed up on winner much in the same fashion. From there all they had to do was drive it home. Not enough can be said about the defense tonight. After being much maligned after the Vancouver game, the Oilers D got their stuff together and only gave up 13 shots on this night. Smid, Gilbert, Barker, Petry, Sutton and Potter all had solid nights, moving the puck and getting in the way. Peckham will have a tough time getting back in the lineup if the defense keeps it up. Something tells me that Sutton will run out of gas and Peckham will get his shot then. Potter and Petry shouldn't be healthy scratches any time soon. The Oilers deserved to win this game and they did, something that wasn't said much last year.

Player of the Game:
- Ryan Smyth. I could give it all 6 Dmen tonight for their efforts, but I'll give it to Ryan Smyth for scoring the winner and making a nice intercept that led to the empty netter. Ryan Smyth had kind of an uneven start to his new tenure as an Oiler, but this game he was his solid, old self, battling hard on the puck and making life difficult for the Nashville defense.

Goat of the Game:
- Andy Sutton. This is a tough one. Everyone played so well and no one had a flat out bad game, but Andy Sutton's penalty in the 3rd period could have been trouble, but Edmonton's PK was so good all night, they killed it off with ease.

Next Game - Tuesday October 18, 2011 vs. Flames @ Calgary on Sportsnet West 7:30 PM MT.
