Shots On Goal - Oilers 23 Blue Jackets 25

Game Notes:
- The Oilers couldn't make winning fashionable so back to their losing ways they go. After a blazing start to the game where they potted the first two goals, they slowly wilted away eventually coughing up the lead and giving away the game in the third period. Taylor Hall had a freak accident where he got a skate on the eye from Corey Potter in the pregame skate, so the Oilers were without the "big 3" of Hall, Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle. Without these kids the Oilers offense is terribly popgun. The Oilers defense was subpar, under a heavy forecheck attack from the Blue Jackets. Devan Dubnyk got the start for the 2nd game in a row and look pretty uncomfortable in the net. Mishandling the puck and giving out ugly rebounds everywhere. The game was not tight from the Oilers and eventually slipped away. Oh well, on to the next game.

Player of the Game:
- Ben Eager. Eager got a regular shift tonight and played over 14 minutes. Responded with some very responsible play tonight. Forechecked hard, scored a goal by going to the net and skated with a lot of energy. Led the team in shots with 4. It seems the more Eager plays, the more into the game he becomes. I'd expect Eager to be playing more of a top 9 role in the near future as the kids continue to heal from their ailments.

Goat of the Game:
- Corey Potter. First for clipping Taylor Hall in the pregame warmup with his skate. And then for his penchant of being in the wrong place in the wrong time tonight. Over committed to the boards on the winner, allowing a lot of free ice down the middle. Potter's game has plateaued, while a revalation at the beginning of the year has now been a minus gatherer over the last month and now is a whopping -12, second worst on the team to Shawn Horcoff.

Next Game - Thursday January 19, 2012 vs. Blues @ St. Louis on Sportsnet West 6 PM MT.
