Shots On Goal - Oiles 23 Avalanche 33

Game Notes:
- That was an odd, disjointed hockey game. Oilers didn't play overly well, but did enough to hang on to a 3-2 victory. The Oilers jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead and rode that the rest of the way. Not much to say about this one, neither team played all that well considering both teams had a week off. Both teams showed a significant amount of rust. It's good to see the Oilers get a victory and maybe the Oilers can draft a little higher this year and gain some respectibility.

Player of the Game:
- Devan Dubnyk. Dubnyk really had to shut the dorr in the third period, as the Avalanche picked up their play. They threw a barrage of shots Dubnyk's way. While he gave up one, he did not give up the tying goal, securing an Oiler victory. That's three solid games in a row for Dubnyk. He's on a nice roll right now. I'm sure he'll get the start again, against the Black Hawks. I'm interested to see how long he can sustain this run.

Goat of the Game:
- Ben Eager. I hate games like this where Eager doesn't want to engage physically. Maybe it was best he wasn't as the Avalanche sleptwalked their way through most of this game. Eager seems to be more motivated when he plays up the lineup and gets more than his 9 minutes a night like he did tonight. Eager still tried to make plays with the puck but had very little in the way of body contact tonight. Perhaps it was just one of those games and I'm being a little hard on him.

Next Game - Thursday February 2, 2012 vs. Black Hawks @ Rexall Place on TSN 7:30 PM MT.
