Shots On Goal - Oilers 34 BlueJackets 39

Game Notes:
- Secondary scoring finally showed up tonight and helped the Oilers gain a much needed 2 points tonight. Ryan Jones was front and center, scoring 3 of the 5 goals in the third period outburst the Oilers had. Ladislav Smid scored a big goal, getting his 2nd in a week after going 2 years without one. Ales Hemsky scored a beauty, and was playing the role of token power forward by going out and finishing checks, something that is going to be needed up and down the lineup. Columbus ran out of gas and the Oilers did just enough to have Columbus battle for their ground. At the end of the second, when the Oilers were down 2-1, I figured it was another game the Oilers would go down with a whimper. But they stood up in the third period, took over the battles and the game. It was a must win game, and they got the 2 points they dearly needed. It seemed like an out of body experience some of the Oiler players were having in the third period. Ales Hemsky hitting, Ladi Smid scoring, Ryan Jones with a hat trick. Just a game that leaves you wondering how the heck that happened. The Oilers have been having a lot of those moments this year. I'm giving up predicting on whats going on with this team because who knows.

Player of the Game:
- Ryan Jones. Jones came in and snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat. Secondary scoring finally showed up and its little surprise that they won the game because of it. Secondary scoring has been an Achilles' heel for the Oilers this year, with Gagner, Paajarvi and Belanger still goalless. Jones was his usual self, finishing checks, endless battling and yeoman PK work. Its good to see him have a game like this.

Goat of the Game:
- Tom Gilbert. His play on the 2-1 goal that allowed Derek Dorsett to go in on a breakaway was pretty avoidable on all fronts. Just a series of ugly plays. Ultimately, it ended up with him coughing up the puck to Dorsett and then falling down to allow Dorsett to go in on a breakaway. It could have been a backbreaking goal at the time, fortunately the Oilers secondary scoring showed up. Gilbert did have 2 assists and was +1, so it wasn't a total dog of a game for him.

Next Game - Saturday December 3, 2011 vs. Flames @ Rexall Place on CBC 8 PM MT.
