Shots On Goal - Oilers 29 Islanders 29

Game Notes:
- Time to clear out the room, that game was a stinker. The Islanders aren't that good, the Oilers are even worse and what happens? A 4-1 loss. Another winnable game lost. The Oilers ended the month of December 3-9, not a month to remember and should, by rights, be enough to get players traded and/or people fired in normal organizations. The Oilers were never really in this game and just floated through the motions for the most part. Ben Eager had a spicy game today. He took some unfortunate penalties that cost the Oilers a couple of goals. Most fans are berating Eager. Me, I'm applauding his efforts. Oiler fans have watched this team gets pushed around for years on end and now that they have someone that can push back, they hate on the guy? Please. You want an answer to that solution? PK should have been better tonight, it stunk and was the biggest reason in the loss. When the Oilers signed Ben Eager the first thing I said was the Oilers better make sure their penalty kill is top notch. While it has been top 10 for most of the year, it has been starting to slide lately. Penalty killing is something that is reliant and since the losses have starting piling up, the energy has started to wane. If the Oilers are going to lose, I would at least want them to be tough to play against. Right now, they are not, far from it.

Player of the Game:
- Sam Gagner. Scored the only goal, at least he knew where to stand to get that goal and paid the price to make it happen. He was largely ineffective, like the rest of the team, but he did get the goal, was +1, and kept the puck out of much of the day. Not much more can be said here.

Goat of the Game:
- Devan Dubnyk. Couldn't buy a save in 2nd period when the team really needed one. The lack of focus in the 2nd period really buried the Oilers in this game. Dubnyk seems to fall victim of being being unprepared at various points in a hockey game. For those who are vaunting Dubnyk to be the next starter, I've got two words for ya, Jussi Markkanen.

Next Game - Monday January 2, 2012 vs. Black Hawks @ Chicago on Sprtsnet West 6:30 PM MT.
