Shots On Goal - Oilers 27 Kings 19

Game Notes:
- Another statement game, another win, another shutout. The Oilers are taking these challenges and shoving them up people's backsides. They took the Kings physicality and pushed back themselves, the end result is a 3-0 Oilers win. Rinse and repeat, solid goaltending, solid defense, solid center play, all resulting in the Kings not getting a sniff all night. The Oilers have now won 6 in a row, with 5 games still left to go on the roadtrip. The nice thing about this win is the Oilers got it done, without getting a contribution from the kid line. As word gets out, the other team's best Dmen are going to start keying in on them, meaning more well-rounded scoring will be needed, and the Oilers got that tonight. One from the 2nd line, one from the 3rd line and one from the 4th line. The Oilers are slowly starting to find different sources of scoring which will bode well for this team down the line. The defense is also starting to chip in which is also an added bonus. The Oilers seem to be pretty comfortable playing at 0-0, which is nice to see, when they saw opportunity, they seized it and never looked back. Are they for real yet? I'm still not quite sure yet as I'm sure a lot of others aren't either, but they have breathed some new hope into a fanbase that has been dying for some positivity for a very long time. On to the next game....Life of a hockey player, one game at a time.

Player of the Game:
- Tom Gilbert. It's getting kinda boring giving Khabibulin POTG game after game, especially after he got the Chris Osgood style shutout tonight. Its time to give notice to Dmen in front him. At the forefront and logging the most minutes is Tom Gilbert. Gilbert has a new found attitude this year, no more passive, indifferent play from him. Now he takes the body, pushes back, fights for position and takes no guff from anyone. Something the Oilers desperately needed from him. I speak for Oiler fans everywhere and say, "thank you for finding IT". Tom Gilbert logged 25 minutes and chipped in with an assist tonight. New style Tom Gilbert is a treat to watch and a breath of fresh air. He and Smid look like 2 different players this year, and for the better. Keep up the good work.

Goat of the Game:
- Taylor Hall. It hard to find many flaws in a 3-0 win. So here, I'll just pass on a piece of advice for Taylor Hall. His legs are essentially moving faster than his brain right now. He needs to compute what he wants to do and then apply his legs into action, not skate like the dickens and ad lib from there. Him doing that usually ends up with him on his backside and putting himself in needless danger. Essentially, just process the play and then apply your legs and hands into what you want to accomplish. I love the fact that he puts the pedal to the metal on every rush, and I wouldn't want him to change that for anything, but if he picks his spots better, he'll find better results. He's essentially like a pitcher with a 100mph fastball. He needs to develop some kind of change up.

Next Game - Saturday November 5, 2011 vs. Coyotes @ Phoenix on CBC 8 PM MT.
