Shots On Goal - Oilers 24 RedWings 30

Game Notes:
- Pretty disgusting game in terms of execution and flat out smarts. Lots of dumb plays and a general lack of common sense out there tonight. The Red Wings have done this to a lot of teams over the years. The Oilers just need to get back to simple and let goals the goals come as they may. It may result in more games like tonight but there really isn't any other way. Hemsky isn't doing much as a secondary option and the kid line is getting checked into the ground. The Oilers just aren't getting the matchups right now they can exploit. Just time to head into Chicago with their tails between their legs and try and muster a point in Chicago. Time to rejig the lines a bit.

Player of the Game:
-Ladislav Smid. I'm going to give this one to Smid because on a night where offense was non-existant Smid battled hard and kept getting pucks out of harms way. As a player that I was hoping the Oilers would deal away, he has come leaps and bounds in terms of defensive play this year. He has grapsed the concept of defensive posture and not always chasing the player with the puck all over the ice.

Goat of the Game:
- Tom Gilbert. Gilbert looked bagged tonight and it showed in his decision making and battle level. He looked like a guy that has been logging too many minutes recently, kinda like old Tom Gilbert. Petry did him no favors by tossing him a grenade in the first period that resulted in the first Detroit goal. Tough game for a lot of players tonight.

Next Game: Sunday November 13, 2011 vs. BlackHawks on Sportsnet Oilers 5PM MT.
