Oilers Cuts from Monday Sept 19

The Oilers 9 players back to their respective teams on Monday.

Martin Gernat - going to the Edmonton Oil Kings where he will have an opportunity to be a major contributor there. He had his ups and downs during the rookie tourney but overall has some tools that can be developed.

Kristians Pelss - Also headed back to the Edmonton Oil Kings. He's a player that needs to show more battle and offensive flair to have a shot in the pros. He'll get a chance to be a major block on an up and coming Oil King team.

Tobias Rieder - He'll get a chance to contribute to a Kitchener Ranger team that should be pretty good this year. Rieder showed well at the rookie tourney, showing off a quick release, and showing well on the puck battles.

Colin Smith - Didn't show enough offensive pizzazz for his small stature, but was impressed with his overall game. Needed to show more of a playmaking ability to open some eyes. Not sure where he is headed.

Chase Schaber - Showed well at the propect tourney, battled hard, scored a goal, showed a solid, all around game. Gritty player. Should get another look at pros at some point.

Brett Ferguson - Needed to show more to turn some heads. Not enough offense, not enough grit, two things he needed to show to get himself noticed.

Wes Vannieuwenhuizen - He played tough, but didn't play smart. Chased the play too much instead of reading and reacting. A basic stay at home Dman.

Tyler Schmidt - Tough kid that needs to be either a gamebreaker offensively or a responsible, stay st home Dman type. Didn't show much of either at the tourney. Needs to be more responsible with the puck.

Toni Rajala - Disappointing tourney for Rajala. Generated very little offensively. Heading back to Finland to work on strength. Hopefully, we see him back at the tourney this time next year.
