Game Notes:
Welp, overall, this game was a dog. It was like watching a Minnesota Wild game in the middle of December. There was a lot happening and miles were being skated, but there was no flow and no chemistry. Smyth-RNH-Eberle was probably the best line on the Oilers but it was a far cry from the line that played in Saskatoon against the Hawks. The Canucks won most of the board battles, got in shooting lanes and never allowed the cycle to happen. The only way the Oilers were going to score on this night was off the rush. Paajarvi and Hall were doing there best off the rush but to no avail. This game should serve as a lesson to all Oiler employess and observers, no matter how much skill you have, someone needs to do the heavy lifting. Someone needs to win board battles, someone needs to take a hit to make a play, someone needs to outmuscle someone else. All the puck magic in the world won't matter if you don't have the puck. These are the areas where the Oilers need to continue to get better in, either through players individual wanting to do so or through change in personnel. Essentially, if these guys won't or can't do it, get someone in here who can and will.

Player of the Game:
- Devan Dubnyk. Only gave up one goal, in half a game on a tap in on a 5 on 3 disadvantage. Faced 19 shots. He looks poised and slightly quicker than he did last year. Perhaps understanding he needed to improve stamina to challenge for the starters gig. He looks slimmed down and less prone to wearing. He'll need a longer look, but through 2 games, so far so good, and right now, odds on favorite to start opening night.

Goat of the Game:
- Taylor Chorney. Chorney allowed the tap in for Owen Nolan on the opening goal. I know 5 on 3s are tough at the best of times, but its a play where you really need to bear down and cover the passing lane, especially one thats directed at the net. I thought Chorney and Plante as a pairing had a tough night. Often getting forechecked hard and coughing up the puck as an end result.
